Design Project 3

This drawing is relating the research for the site.

Red mark--the view of surrounding environment--change of traffic, population and planting

Green mark--the view to the city from the site--3D view from the Gogle earth

Blue mark--the view to the ocean--different colors show the different bays

1st list--

the basic plan of my house, including basic shape and detailed furniture

2 long sections and 2 short sections--Long sections show the interior part of the model; short sections show the level change of the model

MODEL1 -INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR SPACES

This idea is about the connection between the interior and exterior spaces, which is explained by the drawing. We can read the drawing from the left top to the right top, like alphabet U.

• I think windows, door and any openings are important to connect the interior and exterior. Because they are openings made by glass, wood and timber and so on, not like the soild wall without gap. So, I marked all the openings in the 1st drawing.



• There are clear openings in the 2ed drawing. I found it is interesting the 3 or 4windows can be linked by lines, like what i did in the 3rd one. There are 5 long continuous volumes to show the spaces.



• Therefore, I found it is hard to distinguish the interior and exterior spaces in the 5 volumes. So, I think I should ass some color to know the functional areas, like the drawing in the bottom shown.



• Warm color show the bedroom, bedrooms are for sleeping or rest, so I choose warm color, like yellow, orange, pink etc. But some public spaces, like living room, dining room, can be shown by color, like blue, green etc.



• Then I put my empty volume on the colored plan, and then I can ensure the function of areas. The idea is that interior and exterior are interplay, They are not separate, they made up the whole building.
  

MODEL 2-DETAILS

This one is about the details. I want to use the small and tiny detail to illustrate the whole building.

• I choose the stairs as the small and tiny detail. Because I think the stair is the key for people to get the main functional areas.


• Then I found the stair is near the entrance door, so I wanna repeat the stair and put them near each door.


• Therefore, I think this is not good to show the building by the narrow long stairs, so I enlarge every stair to fullfill each functional area.


• This is what I did, using the tiny detail, repeating and enlarging the detail to form the whole building.


• The arrows show the direction of stairs. Some ones are going up, the other ones are going down. In addition, it is interesting that I linked the arrows; the circulation of the Siza house is formed.

Tutor's comment

• The color should have the exact meaning; I should know the meaning of the color i used in the functional areas. I used warm color and cold color; they should be arranged in my final drawing.


• My second idea about detail is not clear enough, maybe i did not catch the meaning of using the detail to the whole.


• The arrangement of my drawing could be better.
